At Arctic Hope, we strive to produce sound, healthy, standard-sized malamutes with good work ethic and wonderful temperaments.

We test our dogs' work ethic by earning backpacking, sledding and weight pulling titles through the Alaskan Malamute Club of America (AMCA).

We test their soundness (type, structure and movement) by showing our dogs to their conformation championships through the American Kennel Club (AKC).

We test their temperaments by earning Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification through the AKC, Temperament Test (TT) certification through the American Temperament Test Society, and Therapy Dog (ThD) certification through Therapy Dogs, Inc and Therapy Dogs International. And now we're branching out into competition obedience, rally obedience, and eventually into agility.

Finally, we test health by obtaining ChD (chondrodysplasia or "dwarfism"), OFA (hip dysplasia) and CERF (cataracts) certification.

Updates

January 2010

  • Mac (Xarri's brother in Alaska) sired his first litter: 7 beautiful babies (3 females, 4 males)!
  • Penny and Xarri earned their first WPD legs

November 2009

  • Xarri placed 4th in a very competitive Bred By Exhibitor class at both the Regional and the National Specialty shows

September 2009

  • Malik received a rating of "Excellent" from Breeder/Judge Wendy Willhauck at the French (AMCF) National Specialty

August 2009

  • Malik received a rating of "Excellent" on his hips

July 2009

  • Penny took back-to-back Best of Breed wins, followed by a Best of Opposite Sex win
  • Ixarri passed his therapy dog test through Therapy Dogs International

May 2009

  • Penny finished her AKC championship by taking Best of Winners for her second major at New Castle, PA, on Memorial Day!

January 2009

  • Penny finished the requirements for her Working Team Dog title!
  • Hope finished the requirements for her Working Pack Dog title!
